flopy drive access lock up

When accessing my flopy drive, either to save or format, the system locks up.

need more info
has floppy ever worked,if so what has changed? does floppy work in dos?
do you get any errors going threw the post?or boot process,have you tried another floppy from another machine?check msconfig for conflick.does bios have floppyenabled.

The flopy drive has always worked. Tried formatting on DOS. Bios is OK. I tried another flopy drive still same results.

It could be an IRQ conflict. Check the IRQ lists.

I still can do a:\dir and it shows flopy disk contents

Give Windows plenty of time to come back with an error message, if a floppy disk is bad Windows can take forever. I would:
1) make certain that the cable is installed correctly...last connector on ribbon is attached to drive (has a small portion ofthe ribbon cable twisted)usually the red goes to the power connector side.
2) Boot to Safe Mode and delete extraneous entries in device manager and delete the floppy drive Controller
3) Reboot and let Windows setup the floppy.
4) Try the offending drive and floppy disks in another computer...if they work and you tried the above then it is likely your controller on the MB is bad.

Also check that the BIOS is set to 3.5 1.44 for the A:

After further troubleshooting I found out that the memory simm on the second bank was giving me errors when put on a memory tester. Replaced the simm everything is working fine now.
