Formating Hard Drive

By jsalaises ·
I have windows nt on my pentium pc 200 mgz
but I want to format the hard drive so that I can install Netware 4.11 and set it up as a server. The question that I am asking is how do I format my hard drive running Windows NT, clearing the operating system.

Also, what are the steps to take once I have a hard drive formated on installing Netware 4.11 using my cd-rom I have Netware 4.11 on cd only.

Formating Hard Drive

Formatting The Hard Drive Is Easy....BUT Be Sure You Have A Working BOOTDISK (A Windows 98 Boot Disk Is Good For This)
If You Need To Know What Files You Need On The Win98 Bootdisk e-mail Me But I Think An NT Bootdisk Will Do. As Long As It Give You Access To DOS (not DOSPROMPT)
From DOS Type The Following:-
(If From A Boot Disk)
A:\format x:
(x: Is Your Partition Normally C: and we are taking it that your bootdisk is in drive A)

The Reason Why A Win98 Boot Disk Is So Good is That It Will Setup Your CDROM Drive (if IDE) To Be Readable From DOS
Thus Enabeling You To Install From The CD.
If Any Further Assistance If Required Please E-Mail Me- hauber@btinternet.com
Hope This Can Be Of Help

You do NOT have to format your drive !

Novell repartitions your drive into volumes and formats them !

If you format them you have to use the utilities on the novell cd or from a novell boot dikette.

If you have bootable cd rom support, justboot off the novell cd and follow instructions. Otherwise you have to make a novell boot disk.

If you have furthur Questions please e-mail me!

I Have Just Had Another Thought That You May Consider......If You Have A Large Enough Hard Drive Try A Multi-Boot System Were You Could Have NT And NETWARE On Least Then If NETWARE Fails You Still Have An OS To Backup Onto....If You Need Any Help Just E-Mail Me- hauber@btinternet.com

THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE

If your NT system is using the BTFS file system you will need the NT setup disks or CDROM to delete the partions. A win98 boot disk wont even see NTFS. Multiboot with Novell? Give me a break!!!

Once the HD partitions are deleted create a 50MB DOS partion and make it bootable. Get your DOS CDROM drivers setup and you are ready to install novell. That's is it!

Another answer.
1. Fdisk drive
2. Format drive w/W98 boot disk to load CDROM drivers
3. Proceed with Netware installation.
This is trouble free. Might take a bit longer but 100% reliable
