    FREEZING HELP

    Compaq 700mtz.,197ram, 20gig harddrive,8mg nvidia video. win home edition, brand new harddrive. The thing freezes for no reason. At no particular time. 5mins or 3 days. The geek shop said it was hard drive but that wasnt it. What now?

      best to start with the basics, try running with minum drivers and services. easiest way to do this is to use msconfig. click on run from the start menu type in msconfig hit enter or click ok.

      click on the startup tab, click on disable all bottom right. apply exit and restart. If the system runs fine then, u know it was onr of those services. re tick them 2 -3 at a time reboot. if it happens again u know it was one of those, and u can leave it unticked. windows runs fine without any of these. Also have u downloaded all updates for ur drivers and service packs for windows XP?

      I haven’t fixed mine yet but the problem was with the ACPI in the bios, trying to access a certain port. I needed to upgrade my bios. I received the software upgrade but haven’t had to time to do it yet. Look into this possibility. Another thing to look at is a program that is causing a conflict. In XP, go to control panel, administrative tools, event viewer, applications, and scroll down to see if the same program is showing an error. Good luck.
