Friends computer not showing all 8 gigs of ram.

By beaton0506 ·
My friend just built a new computer and bought 8 gigs of ram. He has them all installed but windows 7 is only show 3.25 available. what do you think is stopping this? Could it be that the ram is 1066mhz and his board can only read 800mhz ram?

Thanks.

Upgrade to a 64bit OS.

Only a 64-Bit system will see all 8 GBs ...

The reported 3.25GB is what is normal for a 32-Bit operating system.

The 32-Bit version of Windows 7 will display RAM as:
8GB installed - 3.xxGB usable

The 'xx' will vary according to which motherboard/chipset is being used.

Could be piratically anything with what you have provided here

But the most obvious is that the stated 3.25 available is that your fiend is using a 32 Bit OS. These are only capable of seeing and using somewhere around the 3.25 Gig Upper limit. Doesn't matter what OS they use any 32 Bit OS is affected by this.
