Funny mouse freak attack in win2k

by public . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

I have a win2k server at home with a supermicro dual CPU (only 1 cpu (800 mhz) in there right now) and 2 128 meg pc100 ram chips in there. I have installed win2k server and advanced server with the same thing occuring. (though when i put win2k proin there, it would just do the resetting, not the mosue freakery)

After a little while, the part of the display where the mouse pointer was at starts getting all garbled up. Then as I move the mouse around, the “pointer” no longer exists and thearea where it would be also get garbled. After a couple of moves it looses where the mouse pointer really should be and you can imagine, the display is now shot to high hell.

However, if i move the mouse down to the bottom left, i can manage to figure out where the start button is and do a reset.

Also, Everytime, i am copying gigs of stuff over my little network (linksys cable router/switch 10/100),
the server will just completely reset itself. No warning, no nothing.

Sometimes i will get a blue screen with an IRQ error (but there are no pci cards in the pci slots, and i have turned off USB to gain an irq). I just have a voodoo3 3000 in the agp slot and the network card is built in).

I have tried to update the bios but that didnt work. I have scanned the ram modules (actually found a bad module on one of my ram chips) (and even switched ram several times) and that didnt work. I’ve also tried changing mice to no avail.

At this point i am thinking maybe the chip set or ata drivers need to be installed on the server? I mean wouldnt windows 2k take care of that? It isnt a heat problem. I only have a pentium 800 in there with a nice big fan. I keep the case open too cause i always work on it.

At this point i’m stumped. Last time i buy a supermicro case. Their site and their support is just horrible. Ah well, it was cheap at the time….

Thanks for your time guys.
