Gateway m275, how to load tablet PC, nuked whole computer

    Locked

    by sleepy18723 ·

Hi all, I have a Gateway M275 Tablet PC.

Recently, I nuked my computer using geek squad’s MRI to clean up everything for a fresh start. The computer was working fine, I just wanted to reinstall my OS to tablet PC.

I torrented a tablet PC and burned it as a bootable CD from Nero.

The problem I encountered was once the CD was in, I set bios to load the CD as first priority. It loads, then Caldera Dos 1976 pops up. After the load, it remains in dos mode waiting for a command with the blinking whitebox. It looks like this [DR-DOS] A:\>.

I do not know what to do. I want to install tablet PC edition onto my laptop. I have the license sticker.

    Thanks in advance.

I don’t know what you have got but it’s not any form of Windows

The best option is to contact Gateway for a Recovery Disc to reload from.

That way you will have a genuine Copy of Windows with the correct drivers for your NB and be sure that you have no Spy Ware installed. There isn’t any form of Windows that opens up to a DR DOS Prompt as that is a different company who was in competition with M$ in the early days.

The Recovery Partition on the HDD may still be intact buy it could just as easily be blown away but you could try to see if you can access the Recovery Partition and reinstall the OS & Software from there if it still exists. If it doesn’t you’ll need to wait till Gateway can supply you with a New Disc generally at Minimal Cost.

When you see this “dr-dos, A:\” type in “install”. This should load on your software. Hope all goes well.

Have you taken HAL 9000’s advice?

Your best bet at this stage is to contact Gateway and ask about a recovery disk. They’ll want to know the model and serial number. Recovery disks are usually available for $5 – $10 plus shipping.

Never trust any OS you obtained from a torrent. You don’t know what you’re really getting, plus there’s the obvious question of legality.
