Get program error when not on network

This is very strange and I doubt there is an answer. Our CFO’s wife has a Gateway laptop with W2K Pro and Office 2K. They have a home network which uses a Linksys Router and DSL modem. The router assigns the ip addresses. Everything works fine when she is physically plugged into their network but if she tries to use Word or Excel (maybe other programs but that all she uses) when the laptop is not hooked to the network, she gets a Program Error and the program closes down. I saw it for myself. We had her laptop on their network and used Word just fine. I simply unplugged the network cable from her NIC and opened Word and after 30 seconds the Program Error occured and Word shut down. If you unplug the network cable while Word is open, it doesn’t get the error. Only if you open Word after the network cable has been unplugged. Anyone have a clue? I have the drwtsn32.log file from her comupter in case that would contain any useful info but to me it is a foreign language.
