Getting Started in IT

by rockinmycountry . Updated 16 years, 11 months ago

To start, I do not have a 4 year degree. I am working on it, but I am out of $. The loans have dried up and don’t make enough in my day job to pay for school. I have an AA in Criminal Justice and I would like to get into Computer Forensics for my career, but I would also like to at least get some real IT experience. I have the A+ and Network+ books and am currently working to get those certs.

What I would like to know is how is the best way to jump into it. Naturally, no one is hiring inexperienced degree lacking 20 somethings. So I am kinda screwed there. Should I advertise my services on sites like craigslist and just try it like that? Should I create my own business to make the experience legit? Do future employers care if you did it on the side or do they like to know it was a business? I would like to get my feet wet with A+ stuff, then work into network issues. I am fine with home networking, but business servers still are kind of daunting to me. Any suggestions? Thanks.
