Getting website listed on search engines

By zbrain75 ·
I have submitted a website to the yahoo search engine under "Computers and Internet" and "Technical Guides and Support".

I have also submitted the website to dmoz.org, the open directory project under "Computers" and "Organizations". It has beenabout six weeks since the submissions and still the website is not listed on yahoo or dmoz? I have heard nothing from either organization.
Does it take that long? Is the website submitted in the wrong category?

The website is http://ctdp.homestead.com/

How do I get the website registered by the search engines?
Thanks for your help.

There are software packages that will do it for you. There is also, companies that does it. Every Web Serach Engine Homepage has a link for people to register Web pages. Go to www.zdnet.com and put in the search box, search engine submission and you will get a load of freeware, shareware and software for multiple submission.

Good luck!

Even with free and shareware proggies I've known this process take months. uk2.net have an online engine which will cover a large number of search engines all in one hit - but you will still have to wait.

You can boost yourself to the top of thelist in the search engines by listing your keywords hundreds of times in the index page. Visit www.bettermethods.co.uk, view the source and check out the <!--keywords: section for an excellent example.

Well, aside from the suggestions previously made regarding software packages and repeated keywords in the text, it is always good practise to make your keywords into "key phrases" of two to four words. These phrases should be researched and should represent the likely combination of words that someone uses to search for a site.

Furthermore, creating invisible links to all your other pages will help your site get deep-promoted and visiting spiders will have an easier time indexing all your pages. Create a 1 pixel by 1 pixel transparent GIF and then create links to each page you wish to index somewhere "out of sight" on the index page.

It is always good to have the site checked before sending to search engines for indexing. Engines like Yahoo and Lycos have been known to "throw out" sites simply for improper or unnecessary HTML.

Go to netscape.com and underneath the netscape homepage, click on Add URL. Netscape has a Website Garage that you can park your homepage to more than 10 search engines for free including Excite and Lycos. Upon registering your site, some search engine will send you an email and some requires a reply email. Make sure that you reply to those email in order your site to be added into their list. About Yahoo, you have to physically go into their website and add it. I hope these will help you.

Good luck!
