Global Addres List

By 2005Newbie ·
I am a newbie to Tech Republic and Server 2003/Active Directory and need help ASAP. After server failure and fix, I created "groups" for Outlook. However, the groups do not appear in the users GAL. The server has "updated".

Please help!! and THANKS!! My apology for low points, but I am new at this. This answer is probably simple, but I have not found it yet.

Okay where did you create the groups?

Exchange 2003 uses Active Directory, which means that you should have created those using the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC. If you created those groups on the local Exchagne server, they are never going to appear in the "GAL" which no longer actually exists on the Exchange server as it did previously. The "GAL" is now a feature of the LDAP-compliant AD.

And you get 1000 points for opening a question and 1000 points for closing it.

Welcome to TR.

Thanks you for your help; however, I did indeed create the groups via AD on the Exchange Server. I am not sure of the MMC (Microsoft Management Console)you mentioned and also what server should be used, if not Exchange? Perhaps I misunderstanding the point about creating on Exchange?" Thank you for your patience and help.

The groups need to be created on the domain controller, not the local exchange server. You create them in the MMC where you would add a new user for the domain. See;en-us;821904
