Goldmine vs. Act vs. Outlook?

By leigh14 ·
I am building a massive contact database using Goldmine. I have about 7,000 contact now, but I have only just started. I will have several hundred thousand soon. Before I go any further I wonder if anyone has input as to whether Goldmine is a good choice for my application.
I will be setting up remote access / VPN access for clients and sales reps. I will be implementing all the usual CRM. This will be my company's life blood and I can't make any upfront errors. ANY OPINIONS OUT THERE?

Hi Leigh,

I'm in the same boat and need help too. Have you found out anything helpful yet?

Leigh,

Considering you were asking for help a month ago, I imagine you've already made a decision but I found someone who knows a lot about all of the programs. His name is Scott Gingrich and his number is 705-792-7155. He's been a great help to me and maybe he will be able to help you as well. Good Luck!

My opinion.....

by luc_andre In reply to Goldmine vs. Act vs. Outl ...

I work for a large financial company and have Goldmine deployed throughout the entire company (spanning from coast to coast in Canada) The Goldmine server is at Head Office in Waterloo, Ontario where we have over 2000 people with access to it, as well as 250+ field agents accessing it from VPN with Laptops and Palm Treos.

We haven't had any large scale problems with the databases, nor with the information collision or maintenance. The only complaints are from the field people who find using Goldmine a little slow (but remember they are across Canada and using VPN :))

We also recommend Goldmine as a contact management solution for all our enhanced advisors.

Hope that helps a bit in your decision making

Go for the stregth

ACT is very powerful but has a steep learning curve and has some odd quirky ways of doing things and is not that intuitive but worth the time spent learning how to use it.
It can be customized to meet just about any task. It also can record a macro for complex activities.
Ideally you would need one person fully trained in using it.

Thanks for your help. I have recommended GoldMine to our owners as the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive except for one customer who had a problem in 1999. I think it will be a great solution. Again, thanks for your advise!
