Hello,
my desktop is an hp pavilion tg01-2xxx
mobo 8906
Ram 16
gpu 3060
Two HD, 1T + 4 T
1 SSD 1 T
Windows 11Everything was working fine until I placed a new HD 4T and replaced the old 256 gb SSD with a 1T SSD.
Now when ever I run a game, I get the message that I have low video memory.
I would really appreciate any input.
I ran a benchmark test.I finished Jedi survivor on the same desk top before the storage upgrade. I also finished dead redemption 2 and Jedi first order.
Now I can’t launch Jedi survivor. I can launch and play Jedi first order briefly before a crash. I can play ace combat 7 skies unknown.

First have a look in Device Manager and msinfo32, to see if there’s anything strange with the card. Then open the case and check the card (loose, no power, etc).
If the hardware seems OK reinstall the driver of the card. What happens?

I bench marked the GPU. It’s working fine. But it crashes when I play games.
The GPU seems to be in place.

Are you certain that the PSU is providing enough power with the new, recently added hardware? That could easily disable some components installed in the computer.
According to the system specs that I found online, the PSU for that computer is 400 Watts and that might be a chokepoint causing problems. You might try temporarily disabling one of the internal HDD/SDD components to see if the computer has the same issues.
I did a recent search for measuring you PC power usage and found this: https://www.bing.com/search?q=how+can+i+tell+how+much+power+my+pc+is+using&form=ANNTH1&refig=aacfb4373c774c77889d869c142c315d&pc=W000&sp=1&lq=0&qs=LT&pq=how+can+i+tell+how+much+power+&sc=9-30&cvid=aacfb4373c774c77889d869c142c315d
BTW: impressive system specs and I am using a HP OMEN, so I know that HP makes some very nice systems starting out with basic users all the way to power users like yourself.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c08022272 tells me this can have ONBOARD GRAPHICS with the AMD 3600G CPU so the question is:
Is the monitor plugged into the Nvidia 3060?

I think you need to make sure you have the latest drivers for your motherboard chipset, GPU, and storage drives. You can download them from the HP website or the manufacturer’s website or you can also use a third party driver updater software as there are many good driver updater software available for example- advanced driver updater, driver easy, driver booster etc. if this doesn’t fix your problem then it could be a possibility that you need to fix windows memory allocation. Just Follow- Windows Settings > System > Display > Advanced graphics settings. Then choose high or maximum performance option. I think this will help.

Was the computer on when you removed it and installed the new drive? Try using DDU in safemode and then reinstall the drivers for the GPU from Geforce Experience. Also reseating it just to be sure is a good idea.

In reply to GPU not working after Storage upgrade
Hey there,
I’m also encountering a similar issue after a recent storage upgrade. I have an HP Pavilion TG01-2xxx with the same motherboard (8906), 16GB of RAM, and a 3060 GPU. I added a new 4TB HD and replaced the old 256GB SSD with a 1TB SSD. Since then, whenever I run a game, I’m getting a low video memory message.
Before the storage upgrade, everything was working perfectly fine. I even completed games like Jedi Survivor, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Jedi First Order without any issues. However, now I can’t launch Jedi Survivor, and Jedi First Order crashes shortly after launching. Oddly enough, I can still play Ace Combat 7 Skies Unknown without any problems.
I ran a benchmark test, but it didn’t provide much insight. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated. It’s frustrating not being able to enjoy games as I did before the upgrade.

Try these things:
1. Disconnect the new 4 TB HDD. All fine now?
2. Replace the new SSD by the old SSD. All fine now? With both things done, the system is as it was. So it should work, unless something else is wrong.
