GRAPHICS ACCELERATION

By tse ·
I recently assembled this system specs:
ELITE K7S5A mobo
AMD DURON 950
S3 SAVAGE4 EXTREME AGP 32MB
128MB PC 133 SD RAM

Now, I have done the installation of Windows 98 SE. I encountered only one problem, whenever I tuned my graphics accelerator card to FULL, the systems fails to boot @ windows. Can't really figure out why? But when I disabled the accelerator, then the system is ok with it's color. But by this, can't play any directx dames using AGP texturing. Any advice?

Look on the CD that came with your motherboard for the AGP drivers (they are needed for full AGP functionality). Also set your AGP for 4x in your BIOS.

In addition to the drivers:

Make sure you have the correct version, or newer of DirectX for the graphics driver.

I recommend adding another 64 - 128MB of RAM to the system. Do not go beyond 511MB of RAM.

In BIOS settings, set the AGP apperature to a minimum of 64MB. If you increase the RAM, you can increase this to 128MB.
Also, make sure that the primary display type is set to AGP.

Check with both the graphics card mfg, and Elite for BIOS upgrade.

Everytime that I have had a graphics acceleration problem, it has been corrected by a combination of drivers and BIOS updates.

Oh, check the motherboard / chipset mfg web site for driver updates. The ones on the CDs are often several revisions old.

Instalation sequence:
AGP mini=port driver for mother board.
DirectX.
Graphics card driver.
