Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus Ports

By wspadget ·
Does anyone know what ports AVG uses on the "free" version of their anti-virus product? I just installed a copy behind my firewall and now the application won't connect to the update site.

Are you getting the actual error message?

I have used it for some time now, great software!

There is a message that it couldn't be downloaded etc.
I have noticed that it seems to hang and not update (I am behind a hardware firewall).

BUT...the signature files still seem to be downloaded and applied if I just let it sit for a minute. it desn't show it has downloaded or updated but it does, for me anyway.

You can always just go to and just download the sigs they are tiny.

OR....try having a browser window open when you tell it to update.

OR you can check the AVG FREE edition FAQ's on updating>

I've noticed the update problems also.

There is a way to add some additional server to the list though.
Navigate to your AVG folder (C:\Programs Files\Grisoft\AVG 6.0...\) and rename the file in that folder called url.ini to url.back (or anything other than url.ini). Then creat a new text document and change it to url.ini. Once you do that then just paste this into it:

Actual URL=4

The best one seems to be akamai. On all the systems I've used AVG 6.0 it goes straight to that one. After I did that I've never had any problems getting the updates (besides it taking a while on my 26.4k dialup).
