The disk is probably NTFS. Delete the partition first after booting from a floppy disk. Remember also that Win98 normally uses FAT32 and NT uses NTFS. Neither of which can see each other...

Boot to DOS
At the command prompt type FDISK
choose to view the drive information and write this info down, hit escape
Now delete the partitions that you wrote down from previous, deleting the dos partition first, then go back to FDISK screen and select the option to to delete the non-dos partition, after this process is completed.
reboot the machine for changes to take
At the command prompt type-format,drive letter /s
format c:/s
this should get the drive clean and then you can start to install your OS.

When you load FDISK (use win98 boot disk)observe the fixed disk size to be sure the system recognizes the full 8.2G. If it does not try using EZ-BIOS to partition the full disk size. Install 2000 then use disk management to rearrange and format new partitions.

Fdisk is the answer, but you will probably have to Fdisk /mbr first to remove the master boot record from Win2K.
Boot to the OS Startup diskette (whichever OS you want to install) to do this, because there are different versions of Fdisk and it makes a difference which one you use.
Then you can run Fdisk and do the partitioning, and then format the partition.
Hope this helps.

If you can get your hands on a boot disk with caldera dos on it. With that disk run Fdisk\mbr then restart your PC and use a boot disk with fdisk & format with the OS of your choice. Then fdisk it and format it.
