is there a way of finding out the speed of a hard drive.How fast it is running(rpm)
thaks

It can be found on the box or on the manuals that came with the drive.

If you don't have these and your system was built buy IBM, Dell, etc....then look for a spec sheet of your system model/serial number on their website. You could probably findit there.

Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information. Go to Components|Storage|Drives.
This will tell you a lot of information about your drive. At worst you will have to do a internet search on the drive model.

You can run Belarc Adviser, (www.belarc.com) to get the make and model of your drive.
Then look up the specifications at the drive mfgs web site.

There are also numerous benchmarking utilities.
This is the only one I found in a quick search that claims to check HDD speed.
