    Hard Drive\OS Install

    Locked

    by a_tank ·

I am trying to install an OS (XP) onto a hard drive. About 25% into it, the process stops, saying the “dmio.sys is corrupted”. I have reformated the hard drive, even tried a low-level format, and still no luck. This PC was running ME, when it started crashing a lot. I tried to do a restore witht the factory discs, and it will lock up at about 80% complete. Any help would be appreciated.

First, try to install Windows Xp from another Media. If you get the same message try a new harddrive. It seems that you have had problems with this HDD before (the ME install). Running scandisk on the HDD would not hurt either.

Fdisk remove all partitions, shut down
Fdisk create ntfs partition, shut down
      Format
      Scandsk
If disk looks ok install operating system.
      Good Luck!

I had the exact same problem when I was installing XP Pro onto a new, homebuilt, never before used PC. I went crazy trying to figure out what was wrong because I was suspecting hardware incompatabilities. Turns out it was the CD XP was on. When I took it back to the place of purchase, they exchanged and it worked fine.

The dmio.sys is a file and it’s corrupted. Go here to get it and replace it. It’s your software not your hard drive.
http://www.dynamiclink.nl/sys-d.htm just scroll down until you find it. Save it and replace it in your software.
