Used Partition Magic 8.0 to enlarge D: (5GB-W2K). Took space from C: (4.9GB W98 SE). PM8 installed & run on D: drive. PM8 aborted during execution (loose clusters). Partition sizes did not change.
D: showed as 53% fragmented afterwards. Ran Norton’s Speed Disk, D: showed 86% fragmented! Neither Speed Disk nor MS Disk Defragmenter has any effect except to make it worse. All applications still function, but file access real slow. No problems on C: at all.
I have:
Run chkdsk /f Run Norton’s WIN Dr. (autofix)
Run Norton’s Disk Dr. (autofix)
Rerun MS DDefrag & Norton’s Speed Disk.
(now 89% fragmented)
Speed Disk takes at least 10 hours to run
