Can anyone please offer a possible solution to the following? I’m hoping for a step-by-step explanation on how to get the system to recognize the full size of the partition.
Please see the following:
Original System
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-p10
10GB IDE Drive
Two volumes
swap – 1GB
/ – 8.8GB (Used 6.6GB)
Have created another server on identical hardware but with a larger 30GB drive. Installed OS on new system with larger partition for /.
Used Symantec Ghost to copy partition from old system to new system.
The new system shows the same size / partition using df -h. Using fdisk -u it shows the viewable size of partition 1 as 29325MB.
I can’t use growfs on / with the error message “Access Denied.” I’m assuming this is because / can’t be unmounted?
I’ve researched and only come up with people that say you can’t expand the root partition size.
Is this indeed the case? I only wish / to fill the entire 29325MB size of partition 1. Currently, it is still showing ad0s1a as 10GB (1GB swap, 8.8GB for /) from the original server, not the 30GB of the new server. If it is possible to expand ad0s1a to the full 29325MB full size of the new server, how would I go about doing this?
