"How best can a wireless network be upgraded in an ISP"

I don't know about you, but I cannot quantify 'an ISP' because it is an intangible, it's an ethereal agreement of contract, it doesn't physically exist so - how you could upgrade a wireless network in something else that doesn't exist is beyond me.

Perhaps if you were to specify the detail of which ISP you are referring to, along with how this wireless network exists at present, as well as which technology you currently use - we might be better informed as to what NEW technology could be incorporated.

As your question presently stands, the concept is far too wide to be accurately and concisely answered.

Let me take a stab at it

if you want more bandwidth for the Internet, then you would need to subscribe to a faster service through your ISP. This will not speed up your wifi directly, but will increase your bandwidth for data streams.

If your bandwidth is good you may not need to upgrade your service plan, however, you can likely benefit from your current HW limitation by moving to Wireless N solution. This will require new hardware.

Willy the Wingding Pom has got it wrong again.

The OP here asked about new Technology in ISP's to improve Speed and Data Through Put so they are asking about the 3G & Next G Phone Networks not the 801 Network.

None the less it still sounds very much like a Home Work Question to me in the way that it is phrased and without any reference points to start from.

Now off we go

With a WT & a WP I'm Willy the Wingding Pom, London where I'm from

So all I can say is Go Home you Pommy Bastard.
