Only need to send outgoing mails

by rajeevrautela In reply to What type of SMTP server?

Hi,
Many thanks for your reply.
I intend only to send outgoing mails from my organization domain. Do I need to have Lotus or Exchange server?
Let me expain the situation:
I have a website, if some users logs into it and creates an account, an email notification would be sent to him.
For this, in my assumption I only need to have a SMTP server through which i can send the auto generated emails.
If I am wrong somwhere in my understanding, please do correct me.

A couple things

If it is just for outbound emails it requires less set up, but important details to consider. Most email servers require a reverse DNS entry for the email addresses sending them emails. This means that whatever domain you are sending it from, must be associated with a correlating IP entry.

I am not familiar with any web programming API you can hook into, maybe some other professional here can assist you. I would look into free/open source SMTP servers and call to the SMTP server's IP.
Certainly not pay for Lotus or Exchange as it sounds like overkill.
