Hardware specs: Abit SA6R MB(latest BIOS), 30GB HD, PIII 1Ghz 133 CPU, 1 stick 256MB RAM, VisionTek Nvidia GeForce2 Video Adapter (PCI), Soudblaster Live PCI Card, CD-ROM Drive, CD-RW Drive, SMC NIC.
History: Performed a clean install of WIN2K andWINXP (dual boot). Installed latest drives for all hardware. Installed latest IE and WIN2K and XP SP’s and critical patches. Prior to clean reinstall everything worked fine. Same hardware. Installed McaFee Antivirus, and Winzip only.
Issue: Windows hangs (need to reset) everytime intermittently either when playing movie or surfing. Happens everytime I go to www.shockwave.com (shockwave running on webpage). Also happens everytime I run the WIN XP tour. If I set my resolution to 600 x 800 256 colors it does NOT hang. Anything higher it does hang.
Steps I’ve taken:
1) disconnected all hardware except video card, etc. still happens
2) Used a different video card – same thing.
3) Tested sytem RAM using simmtester
4) Clean installed just WIN2K – same thing.
