When you physically reset the router ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Home network problems

Did you also (you must have touched it) physically MOVE it ?

Wireless connections, particularly in the close confines of domestic circumstances (all those corridors, furniture, walls etc) are easily affected by obstructions in their wireless path.

Okay - so the wireless desktop is in your bedroom - but WHERE is the router and WHERE is the laptop ?

Have you tried wandering around with the laptop to see if you can pick up a signal ?

By "reset the router" I assume you mean you simply cycled it - disconnected its power then reconnected again. If that is NOT the case, what did you do to the router when you reset it??

the router is in the living room on the other computer stand and i am sitting in the living so the router and laptop are less than 2 feet from each other and still no signal. i also tried goin up stairs and in the basemnt and even in my bedroom and still no signal. Yes i did cycle it and i also pushed the reset button in the back of it with a paper clip.

Interesting - no signal when right beside another computer ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to re

That's receiving a working signal.

Silly question #1:
Is the laptop's wireless switch in the ON position?

Silly question #2:
Is the laptop's LAN connection DISABLED? - Laptops tend to get confused when the Wired AND the Wireless connections are both enabled at the same time.

Just to be sure, you could open up the settings screen on both the laptop and the other computer, just to make sure they're both running the same settings (the other computer having the 'good' settings).

You could also try ...

Running the Wireless Connection Wizard on the laptop.

Just let the system figure out what's wrong!
