How can i make visible my FTP server on internet?

Hello friends,

I have setup FTP server at home by using fileZilla FTP server. It is accessible lacaly through local IP address (ftp://192.168.x.x) but i want to make it visible on internet? i have DSL broadband connection with ZTE DSL/router. i tried to do port (21)forward but its not working..i want my friends to access my ftp server from internet....Please guide me where i am wrong?

It is possible that your ISP is blocking port 21....

Also....make sure you have allowed access to port 21 on your Windows firewall AND your router firewall.

Hello,

First of all; the physical address behind a router or firewall will not translate to outside the network. So, if you have the FTP server activated and have also added the control points as well; you will need to use the WAN IP. After that, you need to set the router to answer the query on ports 20 and 21 of your home machine. If you are using a software firewall such as Windows Firewall, you will have to enable the software firewall to have ftp ports open (listening), etc. Most of this should be in the manual if you have one.
