The best option to remove malware is a clean install of the OS or going back to factory conditions.

IMHO, don’t attempt to download apps from unknown/untrusted sources. If Apple, use the iTunes app store and if Android, use the Google Play store. Just like any computer that receives email/attachments don’t open anything that you do not recognize.

There are applications out there that help prevent malware, but it cannot not be totally foolproof as fools tend to evolve to even bigger fools.
