how do I get IPTV working on my cisco switch network.

By paulk ·
Guys,
I've a cisco switch network consisting of two 6513 core layer 3 switches and a number of access 4507R switches duel uplinked via fibre.

A 3rd party customer is installing an IPTV solution. We have supplied their kit with it's own Vlan 118. They can ping all devices on this vlan but cannot get the TV channels to stream from their server out to their screens.

I think this is a multicast issue. How do I configure multicast acroos my switches on this Vlan? Has anyone a sample config?

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Hey thanks for the help,
I found by adding the following to all Switches in global config:

ip igmp snooping

and then on the core Switch on the IPTV Vlan:

int Vlan 118

ip pim sparse-mode
ip igmp version 2
ip igmp snooping

It started to work i.e. IPTV started to stream tv channels across to the receiver devices.

Also with the command:

show ip igmp groups

I could see all receiver devices communicating via multicast :-)

Thanks again,

Paul

multicast flooding across vlans

by paulk In reply to No problem.. :)

Hi again,
since I got the IPTV working on one vlan, how can I be sure that multicast traffic is not flooding across onto other vlans?

Thanks,

Paul
