How do I repair my internet connectiont?

By handyman ·
I used a system file cleaner to Repair Shortcut Icons and I think it reverted me to a previous Internet Set-Up. The configuration shows @home as the server and I believe it should be @shaw (my cable provider). I called the tech help desk at shaw and was blown off saying it was a PC problem and not their area. I thought I just needed to reinput their server address. Should I call back and ask for a Supervisor? Do I need new software? I am using Windows 98 SE and have Internet Explorer and Netscape as browsers.

Definitely! If the tech won't help get their supervisor, if he won't ask for the manager of IT. They should be able to assist either in overriding your current settings or reinstalling their software. It's no different than if your hard disk crashed and you had to install a new one. That is all part of the service they are providing to you. That is what's called support. If they won't then demand your contract terminated back to the date of your disconnect with all penalties/charges waivedand get a new internet provider.

Hi,

Do you remember what was the previous settings? If so, maybe you just want to create another connection. Else by no choice that you'll have to give them a call to have that resolved.

rdgs,
Roland.

Try this: Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>InternetConnection Wizard; Follow the instructions in the wizard to set up a new dial up connection inserting the phone # of your service provider (the actual # you use to connect, not the customerservice #), & your sign in info (user name & password).

Good Luck. They are right though above...If your ISP provider doesn't help you then they needen't be paid for the service they really aren't providing. I need to give Frontier my ISP provider a plug here as I'm located in AZ, the customer Service is in NY and they provide me the greatest courteous customer service quite often over the phone w/ what sounds like a smile everytime.

Turns out that it was a windsock problem that could be corrected by going into the registry. I did make a second call to Shaw Cable. Politely, I specified what my problem was. The tech support I received was great. He walked me through the stepsI needed to do. Thanks for your advice.
