How do i Setup a Mail Server

By Dolphin111 ·
I'm currently working as IT Network admin new in this area and i haven't setup a e-mail server, so i would like to setup outlook or other one that is simple to use and troubleshoot, as email server in order to receive and send mails, basically the company is small and all the employees are counting on me to setup an email account for them, is it possible for me to use the name of the company which is LIP and setup email account e.g franck@lip.com. We are using outlook 2003. If anyone as in mind any email server software apart from Outlook something that can be suitable for me and my users and the installation guide i would really appreciate. I have setup a network (LAN) with 15 stations without any server and all are running Xp sp2, I'm also planing to setup 1 PC as a server with OS 2003, i was thinking of using exchange 2003 but that is just too complicated. I have a ADSL 512 a 20 port switch and an active internet connection. Thank u for your attention and help. You may email me on the following email: franclino@gmail.com or flino124@excite.com.

my suggestion for you

If your going to setup a server and have an email server as well, then your going to have to maintain them. So, your going to have to learn how to. For us to give you step by step to set it up would do you a disservice because you would not know how to maintain and administer an Exchange server.

So here are some links to sites which can give you step by step instructions as well as guidance on Microsoft Exchange Server.

here's a link to msexchange.org

here's a link to MS Technet Exchange

Others might chip in for Lotus, Unix, or Linux email server resources.

Merak mail server - easy to manage e-mail server.

by DownRightTired In reply to How do i Setup a Mail Ser ...

Im in kind of the same situation your in. The company Im working for only needs to support about 50 people currently. Exchange server seemed like it had way more than we needed. I came across something called Merak Mail Server. This is the first e-mail server Ive set up and it was fairly simple. It also has some really nice features like webmail, groupware, shared calendars, and its really easy to manage (so far, still testing) thers a 30 day evaluation at www.merakmailserver.com give it a try.
