I was installed alone (no win98 or Millenium); now I am having a problem with some of the services; the restore points were deleted; I can not access the internet. I would like to delete xp and re-install… But how can it be done?

Manually Uninstall If You Cannot Start Windows XP
Start the computer with a startup disk for either Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.
At the Windows 98 or Windows Me Startup Menu, select Start computer with CD-ROM support.
Confirm that the Boot.cab file is present in the DriveName:\Undo folder where DriveName is the name of the drive in which you saved your back up information. To confirm that the files are present, run the following commands (press ENTER after each line):
      cd\
      cd undo
      dir /a

If you receive an error message in response to the second command above, change to other drives on the computer (for example, drive D or drive E) and try the command again. If you locate the Undo folder on a different drive, modify the extract command in the following step with the correct drive letter.
If the Boot.cab does not exist, follow the steps in the “The Boot.cab File Does Not Exist” section in this article.
After you locate the Boot.cab file, run the following commands (press ENTER after each line):
      cd\
      extract c:\undo\boot.cab /e /y
      copy c:\$win_nt$.~bt\txtsetup.sif
      copy c:\$win_nt$.~bt\bootini.bak
      attrib -r -s -h boot.ini
      ren boot.ini boot.xx
      copy bootini.bak boot.ini

After you run the commands, remove the startup disk, and then restart the computer. Select Cancel Windows XP Setup from the Boot menu.

You can find a Technet article regarding the restore points here.
      http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;301224

      remove spaces from URL.
Or you can insert your XP media and reinstall the OS, insert the bottable CD and restart your computer. You can choose to format the hard drive but be prepared to lose everything as XP is an NTFS file system and unlike 9x cannot be reinstalled over the top of the existing OS. It would be an idea to back up any information you wish to keep before trying the reinstall.

You can boot off the OS CD and select the option to repair the installation, but if that doesn’t work you then have to 1) reinstall over the top of the OS (the previous poster is incorrect, you can do that), or 2) wipe the drive clean by formatting and install everything from scratch. If everything has gone completely haywire, you may just want to back up your essential information and do a reformat and clean install.
