How much is my PC worth?

    Hello community.

First post on here, so hopefully it’s all good.

I have a custom built pc that I’ve had for a few years. I’m looking at upgrading to be able to play more of the games I’d be interested in.

I’m a little out of touch with the pc building/parts world, and am looking for some advice.

Just wanted to find out if anyone could give me a rough estimate/price range for how much my current setup is worth?

    My PC Specs are below:

    CPU – AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core
Motherboard – MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
    Ram – 16GB DDR4 2133mhz
    GPU – Radeon RX 580 8GB
    SSD – 500GB Crucial
    HDD – 1TB Western Digital
    CPU Cooler – Stock AMD

Please let me know if I have missed any components.

I know it’s an old build, and isn’t worth that much these days, but any help would be greatly appreciated before I put it up for sale.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and hope to hear from you soon 🙂

I suggest you invest little on this rig.

Eject the HDD, get a bigger SSD and call it a day.

You might get $400 for it with the right buyer but that is no guarantee. I can buy a basic laptop with lesser specs for about $500.

What OS is on the system currently? Unless it is running MS Windows 11, I wouldn’t touch it with a 10′ pole.

While the specs would have been impressive when you built it but the specs are outdated by today’s modern systems/standards. Older systems are difficult to update and often times, replacement part are costly or just not available. Tough to offer advice beyond that.

Assuming the hardware does support Windows 11, “a few years” is “3 years” and it still works without any problems, you can try to sell it for 40% of what you paid for it.

Have a look at second-hand sites in your country and look at specs and prices of PC’s offered there. Since it was custom-build, consider asking the shop that built it what they think a reasonable price and, maybe a good alternative for buying a new one, what they could do to upgrade this machine so you can continue to use it to play more of the games you’re interested in.

      Ryzen 5 3600: $70–$90. Still a good budget CPU.
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max: $50–$70. Popular board, holds some value.
16GB DDR4 (2133MHz): $25–$40. Low speed, so not super appealing.
Radeon RX 580 (8GB): $100–$140. Decent for 1080p gaming, so still in demand.
      500GB SSD: $20–$30.
1TB HDD: $15–$25. Nothing exciting, but it works.
Stock AMD Cooler: Like $10, maybe.

All together, probably $300–$400 if everything’s in good shape.

Based on the specs you’ve listed, your PC is likely worth around $400 to $600 USD, depending on its condition and current market demand. The Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 580 are decent for 1080p gaming, but they’re aging, so their resale value is lower. The 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and 1TB HDD are still functional but may not add significant value due to the overall age of the components. Upgrading key parts like the GPU or adding more RAM would increase the value. The price range can fluctuate based on local demand and condition, so checking similar listings for comparable builds will help refine the estimate.

Your build is still decent for older or less demanding games. Based on current market trends, your setup could be worth around $300–$450, depending on your location and buyer demand.Upgrading your GPU and RAM speed could be a good step for better gaming performance. Good luck with your upgrade!”
