How to add a shortcut to desktops to a shared xls file on server

I guess there are a whole bunch of ways to do this, I’m looking for the simplest way to add a shortcut to my desktop users where they can access a shared excel document on one of the servers. bat? jscript? wsh? I’m a little overwhelmed. Thanks.
