How to add drive to RAID 5 PE2650

by karim.mouzannar . Updated 17 years, 1 month ago

Hello all,

this is regarding a Dell PowerEdge 2650 (Win Server 2003 SP2) running a RAID 5 configuration, with Perc 3/Di (each drive is 18Gb 10K SCSI).
– Bios is up to date
– ESM is up to date
– Controller firmware is up to date
– & Latest OpenManage 5.5

My question is how to add an additional hard drive to increase space. The server can take up to 2 more drives. The new drives are 15K 73Gb SCSI, but I know that only 18Gb can be read due to the RAID 5 configuration and the limitation of the other drives.
What is the process to add a hard drive?
and how to format it?
I plugged the drive in, but the server didn’t recognize it. Went to server administration, and found the actual drive 0.3, but the options given are:
– blink
– unblink
– set as hot spare
– prepare for removal

Are there any options to increase space?

I’m not very familiar with this setup, and don’t have much experience with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Karim
