How to BACKUP???

By CrisBilly ·
Hey! bros... got a problem here. I have a laptop and it cannot start windows (system corrupted). The problem is I want to transfer my files (over 200mb) from laptop to pc b4 reformatting the system. The laptop has no cdwriter but has a network adapter. I cannot use laplink cable becoz it needs "direct cable connection" application which runs on windows environment. My laptop's OS is Win98 (which cannot start) and the PC where I would like to copy files to is WinXP. Any suggestions pls... THANKS!!!

get a 2.5 to 3.5 HDD connector which will let you hook up your laptop HDD to your desktop as a slave drive. copy over what you want, then start from scratch. Cost about $10.00 to $15.00 for the adapter.

I like the other guys answer, but we cannot forget about trusty old DOS. You can boot your laptop to DOS, with the appropriate drivers, which are readily available on and then map the drive to your XP machine by its IP.

Use the LapLink DOS version..

...With Laplink V for DOS you can bypass the Windows operating system with on a bootable floppy disc and safely move your files to another computer....

Hope it helps...

Yet another way is to use a LIVE OS CD, like knoppix or windows ultimate boot CD.
