How to best get Win3.1 running on a PC with WinXP

By ddemuth78 ·
Here's the deal. My dad has an old IBM Aptiva running Win3.1 that he refuses to let go of. (Probably cause it costed him over $4000 at the time he bought it)He also has a Dell that's a few years old running WinXP. I thought I would try to get his old HD contents running somehow on his newer computer using an emulator or whatever it takes.

Basically I just need to know how you would go about doing something like this.

1.)He needs to be able to use the printer connected to the Dell to print from Win3.1.
2.)Access to other peripherals and shared folders would be very helpful too.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Seperate partition

by mjd420nova In reply to How to best get Win3.1 ru ...

The only way I've been able to get an older platform to run successfully was to set it up on a seperate partition and access it through the DOS prompt from XP. This might create some errors when the new OS loading tries to overwrite other drivers and them getting them reloaded when you exit the sperate partition.

Will this work? If so how do I apply the image to the partition once It's been created?
