How to build a site index

By aungh ·
How do I build a site index - a keyword/phrase based site index. I don't mean a site map.

In particular, I am looking for a way to generate a site index for keywords or phrases which will link to multiple locations on the web server.

You can manually build one yourself by creating a property list of key=value pairs where the key is the keyword or phrase and the value is the page it is on, and then just do a search through that.

Or, you could download or purchase a 3rd party search engine.

Per your email request:

Build a component or write a script that will parse a key=value pair type of entry, and then when the person searches for keywords have it try to identify them those keys in your property file.

The property file could be a straight text file or a database table, depending on how much you want them to be able to search on and the kind of performance you are looking for. Smaller lists of keywords are better suited for text files, larger lists are better done with a database.

Then, pretty much just have your keywords, a delimiter (or another field in a DB), and then the page on your site to link to it. You could get real fancy and have another delimiter, and then a description of that keyword.
