The following usually works for the initial log in password: find the name of your mother board and from their web site or your documentation get the jumper position to boot without password. open your case, move the jumpers. turn your machine on and you will now be able to access the set up menu and you can change your password.power off and return jumpers to original position
My setup is protected by the same Password...so does working with hardware and the jumpers enable me to log onto my setup given that it is also password protected?
No in that case it will not cure your problem as the Passwords are Software Passwords not hardware related Pass Words.
You might find one of the listed utilities at this site useful. As they are the same pass word for both I would start with the Windows one as it's much easier to crack.
Go to your motherboard manual and see how you can clear the CMOS with the jumper setting. It usually has these steps: 1. Turn off your PC and unplug the power cord 2. Remove the CMOS battery 3. Move the jumper caps from pins 2-3 (the clear cmos jumper has usually 3 pins)to pins 1-2 and keep for 10 seconds, then move the jumper back to pins 2-3. 4. Re-install the battery. 5. Turn on the PC.
Hey, I also got locked out of my computer several days ago. I tried several free software. It took me two days and got quite messy. Unfortunately none of them work for me. Finally I made it work with password genius. The good news is that it works. The bad news is it is not free.
