How did you get on the team if you don't already know this stuff?

Hire an Architect and Consultant

Hire an Architect and Consultant - why are you on the team without experence? Are you Healthcare? Financial? US / Canadian / Brit / French? Each country has separate requirements.

Hire an Architect and consultant.

Granted!

by Dr. Al Olaimi In reply to Hire an Architect and Con ...

Obviously your team leader got you in for one of two reasons:
1. lack of other competnt staff
2. wish you to get involved as a trainee

My advise is very basic:

Check the internet and do your homework, and the best place for you to start is search engines.

Am I getting too basic? then let me go a bit deeper. Dig your initial basic requirements that lead to the creationg of you team! who knows maybe you are more advanced than what you've demonstrated!

CheerZ to you too :-)

Yep I was thinking the same Col

I was thinking the same as you. Not to sound harsh but it is akin to a child asking his mom (or dad) -- oh sorry that damn politically correct thing...I mean "PARENT" ( lol )..."Can you do my homework for me?".

I also agree its odd to be assigned to a technical team without having the knowledge already.

HOWEVER, he probably works for a smaller company where you are "volunteered against your will" because of lack of staff. I've done the jack-of-all-trades role myself for several years.

It looked like a homework q/a

by JimHM In reply to Jim didn't he give you a ...

It looked like a homework q/a - and with the lack of information - the answer in real life is an Architect and Consultant.

I mean with USA's HIPAA security - data center have much more security needs than ever before. An unexperenced trainee needs consultanting not just a discussion forum...

come to think of it - I could of told him

by JimHM In reply to Jim didn't he give you a ...

I could of told him about calculating BTUs generated by the equipment and the opearting range of the equipment - giving tonage of cool air - then add lighting - people - and other heat generating appliances - and then raised floors - water cool jackets - and yada yada yada - or do what most companies do and hire experts in the field - consultants and architects.

But why answer his homework - mom and dad never did mine -

Are you an outsourced "head" from India?

by Dr. Al Olaimi In reply to How to design a data cent ...

Not be so unjust or prejudice, but from the user name it looks like a pure Indian name!

Are you an outsourced personnel? or an employee?

My experience in consulting is that most of the companies do suffer from outsourcing their serious factions to "out of the country" companies under the impression that they would get better ROI! Thus what they end up with is merely a hole in their budget and a big loss for the "foreign" self-claimed consultant, whom had his first training on their business! And even worse, get to be paid for it with a CV reference!

Good luck for your immigration status!

Again, I very sorry if I offended anyone, never meant it. But never sorry to mention facts that indeed makes my business boom for rectifying with many "outsourcing" oversights!
