How to keep network resources active?

By MattIT ·
I am currently running into difficulties keeping my network connections active all the time. However it is happening, whether it be timing out or whatnot, I can't seem to find the command/service/option to keep the network resources active at all times. This is a big problem primarily due to printers becoming "unavailable" becoming impossible to use for the machines that haven't printed from them for a while.

Any Ideas? Anything you have will be helpful I'm sure. Thanks.

Goto nic card properties and to the power managment tab, then uncheck the "Allow...power"

There is no power management tab in the nic card properties, I'm using Windows XP, all that was available was: General, Advanced, Driver, Details, Resources and after digging around in there it didnt seem there were too many options about netowrk activity

Thanks though.

Ok, I guess that depends on the type of nic card you have. I use xp as well and I do have that tab. Are you connected to a windows 2003 server? If so, are you stations' DHCP and DNS settings set to automatic? If "Yes" to all, then you might have a major problem like the one I just had. I will help you solve this if you do have this problem. Let me know.

I am running RedHat Enterprise Edition for my server. Sorry if this makes it more difficult to work with.
