How to remove laptop cover

By dukemarlow ·
How do I remove the top off of a Dell Latitude LS laptop. I need to reset the password for hardrive access the motherboard battery and jumpers. I took out the tiny screws and am aware of the hazards of exposing the motherboard.

Laptops are NOT like desktops.

There is not a jumper or BIOS battery to remove that will reset the BIOS password.
This is part of a security feature to make stolen laptops less valuable.

I could not find a good link at Dell's web site. But, it looks like you need to contact Dell Support with proof of ownership in order to get a master password that will allow you to change the BIOS password.

For many laptops, you need to take it in to a factory service center and PAY to have the password reset.
On some, they actually need to replace the BIOS IC that is soldered to the circuit board.

Chaz is right on the money... LOST BIOS passwords or STOLEN LAPTOPS with bios passwords need to be recovered only by call Dell Support.

If you remove the keyboard and drop the unit it in water while running it may reset the system board. Other than that it's a DELL issue as are most notebook bios passwords,

If the laptop is yours call dell. they can reset it with a back door password.

You have to be the owner of record.
