how to setup DNS server

Is it possible to create DNS server in winxp pro?

if yes, then how can i go for it?

Is it possible to create DNS server in ubuntu?

I am trying to create DSN server on my private LAN so that totd proxy server can query it.

any help will be appreiciated

DNS server on XP pro

No you can not set up DNS on XP pro as such. You need Win NT/2000/2003 Server Standard Edition Least. But if you only got one physical machine running XP you can virtulise your DNS and network ;-)..!!

Use ubuntu Server edition for DNS

Yes you can use most of the Linux flavours out there to set up DNS. If you have made up your mind to set up DNS in Windows or Linux get in contact will walk you through it :-)..

i got link to setup DNS server on ubuntu .

There is forwarders that i need to setup, if i dont have dns server ip from isp then what should i put into it? shell i use that machine to work as local host? i mean 127.0.0.0?
