HP 4050 Printer won't print PDF files.

By ninet4 ·
I have an HP 4050 LaserJet printer which is attached to a TCP/IP network via a HP JetDirect card. The print server is a Windows NT 4.0 Server. Client PCs print to this printer fine until they try and print a PDF file. Then the document ties up the printer saying "User intervention required." The OS on these computers vary from Win98, Win ME, and Win 2000. They all have the same problem which leads me to believe it is either a printer problem or a problem with the print server. The only commonality that I have been able to find is that it is only a problem when the users TRY to print PDF files.

Along the same line as DKlippert, check the feeder being requested.

Well, my next suggestion is to uninstall, and then re-install Acrobat reader.

It would not hurt to check if any other programs are linked to the pdf extension.

This might be a conversion issue and memory requirements need to be checked and/or increased for the graphics.

Not a memory problem. at least no on the local machines. I re-installed the PCL 5e drivers on the print server, this seems to have fixed it.

Adobe can be a huge memory hog. Our PDF docs that are stored on the network have issues just being pulled up locally. They tend to stop at the same place all the time. I think it's Adobe. Try the uninstall. Or update to the latest version.

Maybe the program it's can't manage heavy load of graphics effectively. That would stop it or slow down the submission of the document to the printer. Chunking it up cause it's not rendering correctly????

The systems can open the PDF files fine. This is a problem with at least 4 computers, so I don't see the acrobat as the problem. I re-installed the PCL 5e drivers on the print server, this seemed to fix it.
