By HillBilly Tech ·
I have an HP Pavilion that crashed. I tried to use the recovery disk & failed to download all the files nessary to run Win Me. I have try new disk, new hard drives, New CD drives. Still nothing. Could this be bad memory? If any has any ideas to help this UserTech out I would be very happy.

did you try to create the recovery CD set. If that failed can you piggy back the drive in another machine and expose the hidden partition. Copy all the files on the hidden partition to another drive and burn them to DVD. Set the BIOS to boot from CD. Boot from the DVD and press F10 and follow the prompts.

That would have been a good idea to retreive files, but I formated the HD to try to install a new OS. This is just a trianing system with very little file anyway. thanks for your help though.

If you have a known good hard drive, try reinstalling the software on it.

The revocery CD ('s?) could also be corrupted. If you have another OS, try installing it on the old HD. If it installs OK, the old HD is most likely fine, so suspect the recovery disks.
