I/O error

when i boot my computer it tells me i have a
i/o error,i know its with my hard disk because i can boot from a floppy

p.s. the problem is on a old 386 laptop

You may have one or more devices configured to the same I/O address or IRQ.
Open the Control Panel,double-click the system Icon,when window opens check for any yellow exclamations marks,if their are no yellow marks then locate hard disk in list andclick the plus highlight and click the properties and check for conflicts.reset or manually change the IRQ settings.

(( Sorry,
I suppose that it's time to change hardware. It is very probable that you have IO error in one of OS dedicated areas. Please try to shift the beginning of your logical disk one or more cyls off the physical hdd beginning. Try to use Partition Magic or DiskManager.
If error won't disappear that probably your MBR (partition table) damaged .

PS. If io err appeared after hardware config changed, see answer 1.

it turns out it the mbr needed to be deleted as you said
