IBM Thinkpad problem

By freetech ·
i got an IBM Thinkpad that will not boot correctly. gives error #'s 161 & 163. it has benn suggested that this may be due to a bios password. i have tried to take out cmos, unhook power cord and take out battery, but this has not solved the issue.
any ideas?

From the forums:

"You've got a dead CMOS battery (Error 161). Open the DIMM cover on the bottom of the unit and you'll see the battery.
Replace the battery and you'll be able to enter EZSetup and set the Date & Time (Error 163)."

Freetech,

Go to the following site before doing anything else. You will find some important information under the "Laptop NoteBook Recovery" section (Last paragraph). You'll also find a link that should assist you further in solving your problem.
