IBM Thinkpad won’t boot from DOS CD

by timothy.sharpe . Updated 22 years, 8 months ago

We just purchased 5 IBM ThinkPad T30s. I have a DOS 6.22 bootable CD that I have been using in conjunction with Ghost to image Dell and Compaq Laptops. The CD works fine on the Dell and Compaq laptops but it will not work with the IBM ThinkPads. I have set the boot order in the ThinkPad so that CD is the first boot device. When it boots I get “-FX” followed but some hieroglyphic type characters in the top left of the screen and then it hangs. If I boot from a Windows 2000 Professional CD the ThinkPad will boot off that. If I boot the ThinkPad to Windows I am able to read from the CD. I have tried this on 3 Thinkpads and the result is always the same. I would use a diskette but we did not order the ThinkPads with diskettes. I called IBM Tech Support but they are not very helpful, they keep telling me that they do not support re-imaging the Thinkpad.
