Use windows explorer to navigate to c:\windows\downloaded program files and remove anything that does not look familiar (files with long strings of numbers and letters for names).

Execute the "msconfig" utility and check the startup options. I would also recommend that you update you "dat" files and scan your system for a viri. Most likely your issue is related to an executable being run at startup. Finding it is the problem.Again, see if something is out of the norm in the startup from the "msconfig" and also check win.ini and system.ini. But then again, access to those two files can be gained from the msconfig util. Good luck!

If the other tips didn't fix the problem, try running Adaware from Lavasoftusa
It is a tool to locate and remove various add / spy ware programs that infect your PC.

I also remember seeing a utility to prevent websites from changing your homepage setting, but can't find it at the moment.

I would also clean out your Cookies, Temp and Temporary Internet files to prevent the program from comming back.

Try going into the internet options in the control panel and there is place where you can enter a default site. I know yousaid it might be blank but still put a different URL there. Also just take a quick look at you start up folder a delete anything i there that shouldn't be there.
Good Luck

Well it is loaded at your start-up. In the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION UTILITY your can remove it there.

By pressing the CTRL-ALt-Del once you can see the program that is running.
