IE 6.0 wont DL updates from Microsoft

By Rock Lobster ·
Here's a weird one for ya -
When I attempt to download updates from Microsoft Update, IE 6.0 wont dowload the updates. After selecting the desired updates, the "Agreement" window pops up, then after clicking "OK", the Download Progress window pops up - and just sits there - it will not progress at all. I have confirmed that the connection to MS update is good by trying it on another computer on the same network. I have also tried "repairing" IE6 by using "Add / Remove" in the control panel - but it was no help. I even rolled back the installation to IE5.5, and then re-installed 6.0 - but it still will not work. Java is installed and apears to be functioning normally. All other aspects of internet browsing apear normal. Any ideas? This ones got me stumped.

We had this problem on several XP computers. It turned out in our situation that the date was set incorrectly and the MSWU page wouldn't load.

IE6 @ windows update

by Kris4Fizz In reply to IE 6.0 wont DL updates fr ...

Yes, I too have had this problem, this would seem to be caused by a myriad of things, I have found that the Microsoft windows update site can be very unstable at times when it comes to DLing on the XP platform, I wouldn't think there was anything wrong with your IE6 settings.

However resetting it to default options can cure this DL nightmare, I have found this problem quite frequent at XP udates, without want to point the finger i would suggest Microsoft need to look into the stability of this site, I get frequent errors when i try to remove crtical updates, then DL other updates first.

Look at your security settings in IE. Set them back to default and then try to do the updates again.
