IE 6.1 problem

INternet security issues on some sites
Ever since my mediacom cable internet service has been set up on my pc, some sites will not load, sites like Iowa student loan.org and other sites that require me to log on. I get the page can not be displayed error on IE or timeed out error on Netscape, but most other sites will let me on. I can reach these sites on other computers in the home hooked up to the same cable Internet service. Seems strange I need advice please.

Site access to secured sites is often unavailable unless you adjust your security settings.
You may need an active X setting enabled/disabled, I found that IE6 changed all my security settings when I upgraded.
From Internet Explorer, go to
TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>SECURITY

You can also just try sliding the Privacy Slider down a notch or two as a test, you may be required to accept cookies if the site uses login or member info.

The website you added in your comments, "Paycheks For Life" will require cookies and Active X enabled (you can set the active X to prompt) because it tracks it's visitors for advertising and marketing purposes.

Make sure too that you are not running setting in IE6 or a firewall that disables third party cookies. Disabling third party cookies, while probably desirable, will knock out many "log-on" type sites.

Click on Help then About Internet explorer and verify that your Cipher Strength is up to 128 bit. Some sites require 128 bit encryption and if your browser is not current you may need to update to the latest version or download the High Encryption udate from Microsofts website.
Good Luck

Brought up the publishers clearinghouse sweeps
entry for me.

Yes, you should have the desire to block third
party cookies yet have the settings to prompt
you for the occasion you 'must' accept them.

IE 6.x provides good security settings in the
'security' tab, but all four areas must be set
accordingly or you've wasted your time.

The other thing I noticed about this issue is that I can not access these sites using Netscape either, I get the same type error, page not found or operation timed out.

www.nielsenmedia.com is a site I can not access
signingagent.org another, plus others.

I can access them on my daughters computer which is on the same network using cable internet from Mediacom. Any other suggestions would be great. I need to get this fixed.
