IE and Windows 2k Explorer crashing

    Locked

    by alexfilkin ·

One of the guys I work with is getting an application crash every time he tries to open IE and Windows Explorer on his Win2K machine. He has scanned for viruses using 2 different programs and his system comes up clean. He says he has got all the latest updates.

He installed Netscape and that works fine so the problem appears to be related to IE. Anyone got any ideas?

Check for an update for the video driver.

This is very necessary if he has IE6 installed.

If he has an older video card that has a driver over 18 months old, I would install a new video card.

wow. video card, eh? that’s weird, haven’t see it but will now be on the lookout…
what is the application crash? maybe we can look up up for you on support.microsoft.com.
meanwhile, are both browsers set to same home page..?

Perhaps spyware or BHO’s? Download Spybot Search and Destroy at http://security.kolla.de/, download the updates, and check for problems. Have it fix whatever it finds.

Recently rebuilt machine. I’ll get him to run anti-Ad software over it.

For what it’s worth. I had the same problem and it was the video card.
