IE Errors

By carla.cds ·
I have a Windows ME machine with an ie.reg error. The IE version is IE 5.5 spk2. I have reinstalled the operating system files - but the error is still there. I believe I can't uninstall IE under windows Me. How can I resolve this error?

Did you try running repair Internet Explorer? I don't know ME but in Win98 you have an option to repair IE if you go into control panels, add and remove programs and click on Internet Explorer. Repair will be one of the options.

A search engine may have installed itself.
You could first try reinstalling internet explorer (can download from microsoft or would be on nearly any isp cd)
If it is the same you could try removing from the registry
- Start the registry editor.
- Go to Start then type run.Type regedit and OK.
- Go to the following key in the registry editor: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Run'
- In the right pane, delete 'SystemSearch', if it exists.
- Exit the registry editor.
- Start Windows Explorer and delete: c:\ie.reg
- Close the registry editor
